The Workforce Development Division’s State Workforce Boards Section provides staff support for the Alabama Workforce Development Board (State WIOA Board) as required by its bylaws. The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Section 101 requires the Governor of a state to establish a State Workforce Development Board to assist in the establishment of a 4-year State Plan, align workforce development programs, and develop and continuously improve the States workforce development system.
The State Workforce Boards Section serves as the staff for the State WIOA Board to secure and establish meeting locations, prepare draft agenda’s, record and prepare meeting minutes, make available all electronic and hardcopy meeting materials, and prepare travel reimbursement vouchers for its members as needed. The State Workforce Boards Section staff also assists the seven Local Workforce Development Boards as necessary.
The State Workforce Boards Section, at the direction of the State WIOA Board Chair, Workforce Development Division (WDD) Director, and the Deputy Director of Commerce for Workforce Development, prepares correspondence for appointments to the Alabama Workforce Development Board via the Governor’s Appointment Office. The Section also interacts with new State WIOA Board members to provide orientation materials and to follow up as needed regarding their roles as Board members. State Workforce Boards Section staff also performs research and prepares analysis of any proposed workforce development legislation at the Federal and State level per the direction and guidance of the WDD Division Director.
